Hierbas workshop on Mallorca

Hierbas is a traditional herbal liqueur that originated in the Balearic Islands. The island of Ibiza is considered the birthplace of this aromatic drink, although it is also produced on Mallorca and Formentera. Hierbas is available in three flavours - dry, mesclat (mixed) and sweet - and is made from a variety of herbs. Our workshop will guide you through the history and production of this unique liqueur.

Schedule of the workshop:

Our workshop begins with a tasting of the three types of hierbas: dry, mesclat and sweet. While you savour the different flavours, we will tell you about the history of the origins of herbal liqueurs worldwide and in the Balearic Islands in particular. You will learn how these traditional liqueurs have been developed and perfected over the centuries.

We will then introduce you to the different herbs used in the hierbas. Herb pots brought along will allow you to experience the plants up close. We will explain the medicinal and culinary meanings of the individual herbs, which not only give hierbas their distinctive character, but also many other dishes and remedies.

Now the interactive part of the workshop begins: Each participant receives a 0.25l bottle and chooses their preferred flavour. You stick the appropriate label on your bottle and fill it from a prepared herb set that we have provided for each person.

In the next step, we fill the bottles with the selected aniseed mixture and close them with a lid. On request, we can pack the bottles securely with bubble wrap so that you can take your creations home safely.
